About
The My World app is designed to help young people living with disability to harness their existing capacity so they can communicate their aspirations and support needs in a way that is accessible for them. The development of the My World app has been facilitated by Life Without Barriers, in conjunction with the NDIA and grant funding assistance from Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC).
The My World app is available free of charge so all can take advantage of its benefits.
My World builds the capacity of young people living with a disability to advocate for themselves in NDIS planning meetings, as well as when interacting with their service providers and family members. My World improves the effectiveness and efficiency of NDIS planning meetings, as well as ensuring that the NDIS is meeting its purpose of increasing “the ability of individuals with a significant and permanent disability to be more independent, and engage more socially and economically” (NDIS Corporate Report 2017-21).
If a young person’s support needs are better understood upfront, it will reduce the need for plans to be reviewed and it improves the experience of a participant in accessing appropriate supports using their NDIS funding.
The core benefs of My World includes:
-
Better identification of the goals, aspirations and support needs of young people living with disability.
-
A greater sense of control in relation to seeking out tailored support, including but not limited to, the NDIS.
-
A greater level of insight by people who provide services to young people living with disability into their goals, aspirations and support needs.
The My World app has been designed with the NDIS support planning process in mind, but can be used in a variety of other ways - any time a young person needs to express themselves.
